Your brother in law is also a very good man. I knew him at VMI and I got to serve with him in the 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division at Bragg where I believe he obtained the name Rock from the company he lead so well. We got to be fellow company commanders for a while there.
I found this trying to get in touch with him to congratulate him on his selection for promotion to Brigadier General. The last time I got to talk to him was at an engineer conference where he was hoping for good news on his Brigade Command. He got that command and, like this promotion to a flag officer, certainly deserved it. Rock or Scott as I knew him before his military career, has been on the right track since he showed up at VMI.
