The Last Place
On a grassy knoll
shaded by a willow tree
here he stays alone
the last place he'll ever be
before moving here
he'd come thinking of the past
but due to his fear
always left extremely fast
As the years moved on
friends he knew moved to this place
and as they were gone
he tried to fill their empty space
but try as he might
this neighborhood was getting full
adding to his plight
the place began to exert its pull
As he added years
most he knew moved to this spot
he began to fear
that this soon would be his lot
Slowly came the day
arrival of that moving van
he was on his way
as the region's newest man
Few will come to visit
fewer still will choose to stay
most will choose to miss it
glad it's not their moving day
Is this earthly sphere
his eternal resting place?
or is it his "here"
is dependant on God's grace
On a hill of grass
memory of this man belongs
records of the past
stay in spite of all his wrongs
On this verdant hill
all alone the time goes by
and he is there still
although he never chose to die
On a grassy knoll
shaded by a willow tree
here he stays alone
the last place he'll ever be
