China blocks Twitter, Flickr and Hotmail ahead of Tiananmen anniversary

Chinese censors blocked access to Twitter and other popular online services on Tuesday afternoon, two days before the twentieth anniversary of the crackdown on democracy protests in Tiananmen Square which cost hundreds of lives.
The
move came as authorities detained a leading dissident and ordered
another to leave Beijing in an indication of the intense sensitivity
around Thursday's anniversary....

maybe we've got it all wrong -- maybe China is actually blocking these sites in an attempt to bring as much attention to the Tiananmen Square massacre as possible...
