Off the Street

Off the street. Too many nights to count
No one cares - not even the slightest amount
When at the end, when I no more could stand the pain
You saw my drought and sent me restoring rain

In the moment when the darkness cannot grow
In the moment when no light you see can glow
That’s the moment when the Lord is ever near
In that moment you can know God is here

When the spirals of your life only turn a downward twist
When you’re nowhere to be found and it seems you are not missed
When the rope has found its end and you wish it round your neck
When the world shows only hate and your life’s a total wreck

In the moment when the sadness overwhelms
In the moment when your boat’s without a helm
That’s the moment when the pilot jumps aboard
In that moment you can see that it’s the Lord

When the trials and temptations take their heavy, heavy toll
When it seems as though all evil is on a non-stop roll
When the energy for living nearly fully fades away
When you are so very certain you can’t last another day

In the moment when despondency’s complete
In the moment when all you see is defeat
That’s the moment when the God whose love is true
In that moment shows His special love to you

Inspired by the story of the homeless woman who about to take her life was taken in by Christians. It was at her baptism.
